Dr. Pedro Cavadas es uno de los referentes internacionales en cirugía reconstructiva y microcirugía avanzada.

 

A lo largo de más de tres décadas de experiencia ha tratado casos de extrema complejidad relacionados con traumatismos graves, malformaciones congénitas y reconstrucciones complejas de extremidades y tejidos.

Trayectoria, hitos y publicaciones

Cirujano plástico y reconstructivo, referente internacional en microcirugía avanzada y cirugía reconstructiva de alta complejidad. A lo largo de su trayectoria ha combinado actividad clínica, investigación, docencia y un firme compromiso humanitario a través de la Fundación Pedro Cavadas.

Biografía y formación

Nacido en Valencia en noviembre de 1965, Pedro C. Cavadas Rodríguez completó la Licenciatura de Medicina en la Facultad de Medicina de Valencia con Matrícula de Honor. Durante ese periodo le fue concedido el Premio Extraordinario de Licenciatura y posteriormente el Segundo Premio Nacional de Licenciatura en Medicina.

Se formó como Médico Interno Residente en el Hospital La Fe de Valencia, donde obtuvo la especialidad de Cirugía Plástica y Reparadora en 1995. Ese mismo año alcanzó el grado de Doctor en Medicina por la Universidad de Valencia.

A lo largo de su carrera ha desarrollado una intensa actividad asistencial, investigadora y docente, consolidándose como una de las figuras más reconocidas en cirugía reconstructiva y microcirugía avanzada.

Trayectoria humana y fundación

El Dr. Cavadas ha explicado en distintas ocasiones que su vida profesional dio un giro decisivo tras la pérdida de su hermano y sus estancias en Kenia. Esa experiencia influyó en la creación de la Fundación Pedro Cavadas, una organización sin ánimo de lucro dedicada a la cirugía reconstructiva en África.

La fundación nace desde una visión profundamente humana de la medicina: ayudar a quienes no pueden elegir, devolver oportunidades y poner la cirugía al servicio de la dignidad de las personas.

Hitos quirúrgicos destacados
  • 2004: mantiene vivo un brazo amputado al conectarlo temporalmente a la pierna del paciente durante nueve días antes de su reimplante definitivo.
  • 2006: realiza en España el primer trasplante de dos manos y antebrazos a una mujer colombiana, siendo además la primera mujer del mundo en recibir este tipo de trasplante.
  • 2007: reimplanta una mano amputada a un niño de dos años y realiza el segundo trasplante bilateral de manos y antebrazos en España.
  • 2008: protagoniza el segundo autotrasplante cruzado de brazo del mundo y realiza el segundo trasplante mundial de dos brazos enteros.
  • 2009: lleva a cabo el primer trasplante de cara en España, incluyendo lengua y mandíbula.
  • 2011: realiza el primer trasplante simultáneo y bilateral de piernas a nivel mundial.
  • 2012: dirige la reimplantación de ambos pies a un niño de diez años.
  • 2015–2016: reconstruye el rostro de una mujer marroquí con un gran neurofibroma facial, devolviéndole funcionalidad e integración social.
  • 2016: extirpa un tumor gigante en la base del cráneo a un paciente de Kenia.
  • 2018: reimplanta la mano derecha amputada de un marine estadounidense y reconstruye la columna vertebral de un joven tetrapléjico por lesión de arma de fuego.
  • 2018: reconstruye la cara y la mano de un hombre keniano atacado por una hiena.
  • 2020: extirpa a un niño africano un tumor facial de tamaño excepcional.
